With over a decade of experience in the ministry, Farayi and Afia Bayayi, married for 18 years, leverage their experience of working with people from all walks of life to better equip themselves in serving others within their expanding Home Education community. Together, they are lifelong learners who both thrive on reading, connecting, and building community.
Afia Bayayi, once a teacher, is now a home educating mum of three. Their children are 7, 9, and 11, and have always been home educated. Afia’s background is in Education, with eight years of experience teaching GCSE and A-levels, with her final teaching years being in the position of Head of Department.
As rewarding as teaching was, becoming a mother changed her priorities. Embracing the transformative journey from a school teacher to a home educating mum, with the support of her husband, Afia has redefined education by making their home the centre of learning for her family.
Her journey is a testament to the power of hands-on, immersive, and personalised education that nurtures not just academic skills but also the overall well-being of children.
Since the arrival of their final child, Afia has successfully transitioned from being a dedicated school teacher to a passionate home educating mum and full-time business owner, enabling her to work on her own terms and around her home and family to support their home educating lifestyle.
She has embraced a life that intertwines entrepreneurship, family and education. Her journey into home education is not just a personal choice but a profound statement on the flexibility and depth that education can achieve outside traditional structures.
In 2022, Afia co-authored the book ‘Another Way to Learn’ alongside a group of experienced UK home educators. This book is a handbook to equip and empower families in the daily rhythms and choices of home education in a very practical way. It inspires those who are curious and encourages those already on the journey. Its first batch sold out on Amazon, but additional copies are still available for purchase.
Afia's eBook, "Home Educating with Confidence: A Parent's Handbook," is now available for download from this website. This guide aims to help parents navigate the challenges and opportunities of home education with confidence.
With her rich background as both an educator and a home educating parent, Afia is a strong advocate for educational reform and empowering parents to reclaim control over their children's education. Afia champions a holistic and individualised learning philosophy, highlighting the critical role parents play in sculpting the educational journey of their children.
Based in South London, their approach is an Eclectic Home Education one, drawing from a variety of educational philosophies and materials. The Bayayi's tailor their approach to meet the individual needs and interests of their children, using a mix of workbooks, online resources, and hands-on activities.
As a family, they are carving out a space on the internet to empower parents with knowledge, tips, and ideas to support the learning and development of their children, whether or not they've chosen to home educate. Their aim is to inspire. As they are learning, they are sharing, so that others can, in turn, share too.
